There comes a time in every healing journey whether you’re walking it out for yourself, your spouse, your child, or your clients when you realize something gut-level uncomfortable:
You can’t control the outcome.
And let me tell you, as someone who has spent years trying to research, reason, and rescue her way to wellness for her whole household… that one hurts. It feels like admitting defeat when really, it’s the beginning of divine surrender. I used to believe that if I just knew more, did more, planned better, or found the perfect protocol, everything would finally fall into place. I’d get the miracle. I’d fix what was broken. I’d beat the system and prove the specialists wrong.
But healing, real, lasting, whole-person healing doesn’t obey spreadsheets or willpower. It happens in layers, in seasons, and often in silence, where no one claps or notices the internal war you just won by choosing peace over panic.
And sometimes, the miracle comes in a way you never expected.
Like when your husband’s health is restored… through the unthinkable. Amputation wasn’t in our plan, but freedom from nearly every medication and his CPAP? That was. I prayed for healing. I just didn’t realize it would come through surrender, not strategy.
So now I’m learning to let go.
To let go of my grip on outcomes.
To stop assigning moral value to results.
To stop measuring my worth (or God’s faithfulness) by whether or not everything goes according to my plan.
My affirmation: I release control over the outcome. I am not the author of every ending. I am a willing vessel, a faithful sower, a steward of what is in front of me. I plant, I water, I pray… and then I let go. What grows is not mine to micromanage. It is time to unclench my fists and trust the process.
Here’s what I know now:
- My job is obedience. God’s job is outcome.
- My responsibility is faithfulness. Not control.
- Surrender is not passive. It’s the most active, trust-filled choice I can make.
